2019  The Sound Room

The Sound Room, widely considered one of the more ambitious and beloved music spaces on the globe, was comprehensively constructed utilizing a form follows function approach, looking to acoustic strategies to inform the room’s materiality and volumetric composition.  The space is cladded with a singular palette of CNC routed plywood that sits proud of an all encompassing layer of acoustic material.  Diverting from the typical central lighting element in a club, we chose to create a focal lighting element with negative space, as the ceiling recesses to reveal an intervention of linear concealed light forms. ARUP’s acoustic team consulted on the sound engineering.  The custom speakers were built by OJAS. Lighting design by Nitemind.  The Sound Room has been featured in Dezeen, NYTimes, and Architectural Digest.
